We work with and support the world's best AI and deep-tech founders. We've hosted 80+ build-a-thons and hackathons — inventions like Lovable and Perplexity came out of them. Twelve of the seventy AGI House-series roommates are unicorn founders, with nine more behind $100M+ companies. Together, roommates have founded companies worth ~$1 trillion.

A Short
History

In February 2022, Jeremy Nixon put his own name on the lease for a house in Hillsborough and started inviting researchers to live and build there. That fall he and Andrej Karpathy ran the first hackathons out of the living room. There was no brand and no plan, just a full house of people who wanted to work on intelligence together. It became the first AGI House.

Perplexity was started there. Martian was invented and won a hackathon there. The founders who came through, the group that got called the PayPal Mafia of AI, went on to build companies now worth ~$1 trillion. Across 2022 and 2023 the house ran dozens of hackathons, from Whisper and the first ChatGPT weekend to LangChain, GPT-4, and the CRV agents hackathon where MultiOn and AutoGPT first showed up.

The mission never changed: give the people building the future a place to build it together, then get out of their way.

The second house. Jeremy opened it in the city to run the same thing at a larger scale, now hosting up to five events a week.

2022

Jeremy Nixon takes the lease on a house in Hillsborough. He and Andrej Karpathy run the earliest generative-AI hackathons out of it, and the first AGI House is born.

2023

Dozens of hackathons in a single year. The house becomes the default place new agents, image models, and LLM tools get built and demoed first.

2024

Jeremy opens AGI House SF, a second house in San Francisco, and moves the work into the city.

Jan 2026

Julius Ritter joins as president to lead AGI House SF. The house runs hackathons with OpenAI on autoresearch, self-improving agent frameworks, and harness optimization, at a cadence of up to five events a week.
